Apparently I can’t stop reading graphic novels. How was this genre unknown to me all this time? It’s so much work and talent to appreciate and also so much fun to read.

Seconds was definitely good. The.Art.Is.Fantastic! Bold ,beautiful colors, simple but really cute drawings; the city especially was stunningly drawn and colored. I loved everything about that.
The story is also a strong point. It reminded me so much of Anya’s Ghost but for me Seconds is like a 2.0 version. It is more complex, longer, with a larger cast of characters and grown-up main character. And let’s not forget a stunning color palette

On the surface, it looks like Katie has it all. She's a successful chef at a popular restaurant that she co-owns. She's renovating a building nearby to create her own restaurant that will be entirely hers. The way Katie sees it, there's so much room for improvement in her life. The new restaurant is taking forever to finish and then her ex-boyfriend shows up at the restaurant and causes her to regret some of the choices she's made in the past few years. That night, as she falls asleep, she sees a girl perched on top of the dresser in her room. When Katie inspects the dresser, she finds a note accompanying a notebook and a mushroom. The note tells her to write down a mistake, eat the mushroom and go to sleep. She gives it a try and surprised to find that it actually works. She also discovers a hidden stash of the mushrooms growing in the basement. In the days and weeks that follow, Katie starts making more and more changes. With each change, her world gets weirder until Katie can no longer deny that she may have unleashed something that was meant to stay under wraps.
Making wishes, fixing mistakes...these are things we only dream of being able to do. In the long run, we're better off for not being able to do these things, right? In the universe of Seconds, it takes Katie a very long time to figure out that some things are best left to their own devices. The reader will cringe as Katie "fixes" things that seem trivial. Even more cringe-worthy is Katie's obvious attempts to justify her decisions to herself. It takes much longer for Katie to realize what the reader has suspected all along: there's a very good reason that humans aren't normally allowed to change the past and it has a lot to do with the fact that we do not exist in a vacuum. Even some of the smallest decisions can have a wide variety of unexpected consequences. That being said, this graphic novel could easily have been boring and predictable, but O'Malley adds an additional supernatural layer to the pot. What exactly happens when a mistake gets fixed? I'm not telling, but O'Malley is quite clever in his construction of this compelling tale.

So good! Fun, and enjoyable to read with some tension, could definitely read in one sitting. Illustrated beautifully!

This book was really great. It was cute, quirky and funny. The art was amazing. It was no Scott Pilgrim - but honestly how can anything even compare to Scott Pilgrim (even if it is the same author). This was a great read and I am glad I read it. I liked it a lot and would recommend it to anybody that likes a cute read -- but don't expect Scott Pilgrim!

I LOVED IT.
