I read this book because I am a huge fan of the musical. However, this book was largely disappointing, especially plot wise. I don’t blame this book for its 2004isms, but I do blame it for poor character development and an unsatisfying ending. Watch the musical- the plot is much more sussed out, the characters are dynamic, and the experience is truly enjoyable.

The book makes some great commentary about the increasing role of technology in our lives and how dangerous it can be for us, especially when popularity is involved. With the book written in 2004, it’s safe to say it was ahead of its time. I like how it was written from the perspective of high schoolers, a group highly effected by technology, but found some of the adult characters a little over the top, which got in the way of complete enjoyment. I still can’t decide if it was done purposely or not. I’ll be excited to see how this translates to the stage and screen.

i know it's over 10 years old and all but wow could really have done without some of the homophobic language contained within. all in all a cool premise, not the best execution, but alright for a genre i dont really read.

I liked this book but I did not love it. I was slightly disappointed because I have read and love It's Kind of a Funny Story and I feel like this book just did not touch me on the same level. The main character was kind of a whiny brat and I really did not like him very much. Now I am not a teenage boy nor have I ever been so I cannot attest to the authenticity of the character's train of thought. However, I felt like it might have been horribly exaggerated. Also the end was just kind of there. There was no big fallout like I was hoping for. I wanted the character to have some growth and to realize some life lessons instead he just sort faded out. Overall I did like the book and for the majority of the book I was entertained and wanted to see what would happen next.

I really enjoyed this. Almost a four star rating, but it didn’t quite hit that mark.

Some of my friends have said that I would like the musical. I’ve seen reviews from people who listened to the musical first, and loved it, then read the book, and hated it. So I decided to do the opposite and read/listen to the book first. I’m glad I did it this way.

I’m at very excited to listen to the musical.

Read it because I love the musical but this was so bad it almost ruined it for me. Not very well written, unlikeable characters and no actual ending (resolution) it just kind of stops.
