I totally get some of the negative reviews from people like myself who fell in love with the musical. There's problematic elements for sure, but I am glad that this book exists. The fact that Ned wrote this before the first iPhone shows how forward thinking he was regarding technology. Without this book the musical and subsequent community that grew around it would not exist. RIP Ned and happy closing day BMC

After reading the reviews, Jesus fucking Christ, this book is obviously not meant to take seriously, and using what the Squip says as what the author thinks is total Bullshit. If you want a raunchy teen comedy this is it. I found it funny, and entertaining, it doesn't really match the musical but it's still cool.
It's really hard to rate this book because I was with it for the whole ride and then it ended so abruptly. I really only picked it up because Jesse Eisenberg was the narrator....anyways, here's more scoring.
+1 star - narrator was amazing
+1 star - good flow of action
+1 star - interesting idea, especially revisiting this concept about 7 years after publication
+1 star - Quick and easy to read for summer.
-1 star - WTF ending? There was ZERO resolution for the main issue and main arc of the story. I know not every story gets a happy ending, but SOME level of summation is required.
Total stars = 3

Although this book was interesting with a unique character named the Squip, and I liked the open-ended ending there wasn't much of a interesting enough plot for me as it more humorous than serious with Jeremy's miscapades and often wrong behavior at the hands of the Squip. Still, sometimes it was really funny and I liked the writing! Rich's character here is also interesting.
I listened to the soundtrack before reading the book and I've gotta say... I'm disappointed there was no "Micheal in the Bathroom" scene! So 3/5 not enough Micheal.

I read this book because I watched the musical. The book is very different but it's not that bad. I have read reviews where this book gets hate for some things it says and that's understandable but the plot and the characters and the emotion and the way the squip talks to Jeremy is just so good that I rated this book 4.5 stars. The afterword is also really nice.

Read because I was interested in the muscial and wanted to understand the reference material. It was okay. Mildly entertaining. The characters were much less developed than in the musical, and there were much lower stakes for everything. An easy, YA read, but I don't think I would read it again or highly recommend it.
3.5 Stars
This was a pretty quick read, thanks in part to short chapters. I found myself frustrated with Jeremy's thought processes at times, and the overall slut shaming that seemed to happen in the book. While this was a good book, it wasn't my favorite. There are bits and pieces I liked more than the musical, and places where I liked the musical more. Overall not a terrible book.
