I couldn't finish this book. I liked it at first, but about 3 chapters in it got very irritating. I was listening to the book on CD and there was supposed to be a character who sounded just like Keanu Reeves but the voice the narrator used was more like James Earl Jones. I couldn't stand it. I may try the print version in the future, but it wasn't so great to begin with, so I have little motivation.

As I said in my earlier note of reading just under half of the book: it really dates itself with bigoted views and non-politically correct terms. It’s pretty crass and honestly kind of shocking the way things are talked about. Yeah sure it has a lesson but the whole book is basically Jeremy groveling bc he’s not Cool and trying to become Cool and she does some pretty uncool stuff to achieve his goal. I suppose the “moral” of the book is that it’s best to be yourself and not change so that others will like you but it’s not a clear message and it come more across like “fuck bitches, be an asshole and everyone will like you.”
I didn't love it, I was expecting great things based on other reviews and things people have told me. It started out as a typical YA novel and quickly digressed into a science fiction/fantasy realm that all seemed a bit forced. Not a bad book overall, but was not as good as it is hyped up to be.
This book was... odd. The musical is definitely better, but this was okay. You could tell it was outdated (which I’m sure is one of the reasons I prefer the musical - it was updated for a modern audience), so some things sort of bothered me. Other than that, it was an interesting story that the musical did a great job of tweaking to make it better!

I’m not usually a fan of sci-fi novels, but this one is actually really good! It’s about this boy who learns about this super computer that you swallow, and it helps you become whatever you want to be.

Not very impressed, sometimes being inside of a teenage boy's head is no fun at all.
I got this book because I love the musical. I thought they would be the same, but it’s like a book to movie adaptation, same idea but everything is different. I really liked this book. I wouldn’t give it 5 stars because I felt it was really short and didn’t go into things as much as I felt was needed. Some things that were different are Jeremy’s Mom is alive, the squip wasn’t a bad guy really. Micheal is white. Not everybody got squips. The play was so different. It was good though. I liked it. Wasn’t one of my favorites, because it didn’t have much meaning. I would still recommend it, it’s a fast read and really easy to understand a bit mature so 14+ probably because of sexual stuff.
It only took me one day to read this book, and though I found it to be a quick read I also found it to be a fun read. The whole concept for this book was a really awesome idea about this pill that you can take that will make you “cool”. Who doesn’t want to fit in at school and not feel like an outsider? This book has such a realistic portrayal of school and being a teen. The little jokes that were thrown in there gave the whole concept an extra layer. Even though I really did enjoy this book, I dont think I’ll be buying my own copy of it. I found it to be kind of average, and I definitely preferred Ned Vizzini’s other book “Its Kind Of A Funny Story”.
