“I think I’ll save it to wonder about when I’m old and can’t have fun anymore.”
I genuinely think whoever wrote the synopsis for this book didn’t read it lol. Wow! I loved my first Eve Babitz. This novel is stretched out and winding, like life, taking many turns. It’s about partying, loving gay men, knowing too many people, being an unreliable narrator in your own life, and leaving and returning to things. It’s about aging into your ridiculous 20s, and then later aging out of them, all the while having no idea really how things will end up, or even how you want them to. Some of the language has unfortunately aged poorly, but the story holds up. I’ve owned this book for years but only read it now, and it was perfect timing. I understand why some people hate it but personally it’s right up my alley!
