For a book called sex and rage this was honestly quite dull at times. The pace was quite slow, I struggled to keep up with the new characters being introduced every 5 minutes, and I struggled to keep up with what was happening in the book.

You can imagine my surprise when I picked up this book titled “Sex and Rage” only for the topics of sex and rage to have not once been mentioned. Alas, this might have been my doing in after having read Tolstoy’s “War and Peace”, that I inherently assume that the book’s title will be relevant to the content within the pages. How could I have been so foolish as to have made that assumption! Perhaps the point was to be so full of rage by the lack of sex and rage, that you get up and go do something else…

This book smells like oranges, and looks like sprawling architectural digest homes teeming with color. The descriptions are so dreamy it almost distracts from the fact that there is no story happening here. All the points for gorgeous prose; unfortunately the only ‘rage’ was mine after a book called Sex and Rage had literally none of either

Very much summer in a book, not much sex and not much rage though
I found this book somewhat boring. It reminded me a lot of The Guest by Emma Cline but with even less going on. I had no strong feelings about this book at all. I can’t really put my finger on why I didn’t connect with it, maybe if I read more from Eve Babits and get used to her writing style I will end up liking it more. Jacaranda just felt kinda blah and I didn’t really understand her and Max. It could also be that I was not really taken with the setting, LA, and the FEELING of LA in this time period. It felt similar to the books by male authors about wandering around and finding themselves, like On The Road. I don’t think it did enough to differentiate itself from those to be interesting.
Beautiful writing but a little boring. Love her style though
it's nice to know that even hot nepo surfer manic pixie dream girls have problems... i wanna be her so bad. Also, everyone should love Socal as much as Eve Babitz loves Socal
