fun little read but i must admit i expected to like this book a lot more than i did

i think the issue was i do not have a single thing in common with jacaranda and so i do not understand her even slightly and i do not understand why the title was sex and rage if eve wasn’t a brilliant writer i don’t think i would have liked the book at all so eves writing is definitely the saving grace she is quite good at what she does i would want to read more of her stuff

not enough sex not enough rage too much nepotism

Meh.

It’s well-written re: word choice/flow and level of detail I guess. But it’s not what I expected. There wasn’t hardly enough sex or rage for it to live up to its title...was there any at all?

(3/3) But Jacaranda had always been lucky

Miss Babitz has done it again.

really fun, quick one for me. apparently not even eve's best so i'll def be reading more of hers

Eve Babitz waxing lyrical about LA AND New York? Sign me up! The pitch-perfect, spot-on observations of "dear friends" and their intoxicatingly toxic milieu were a welcome bonus. The narrative was a little loopy and occasionally unhinged, but it's Eve Babitz! Would you have her any other way?

Fabulous ..  an easy read while also feeling important thru experiences of womanhood, privilege, and societal expectations - resonates today, and the part w Sonia tied it all together. would love to think more abt Jacaranda acting as Sonia with a modern take

Babitz is a master of poetry in plain site. Cool, dismissive perspective so easily becomes desperate and sanctimonious. This book is the telltale that even those aspirational people who seem impossibly aloof and adrift are more often than not just as scared of us as we are of them.
