i’m 28 and on the barge. jacaranda, sunrise, me - girls whose luck has run out but not faded into oblivion just yet. we still have time to jump off the pier, dodge the crocodiles, and dreary party guests who grow bored of our mercurial antics. ditch the etienne’s and max’s of the world - we have always been far more interesting than them anyway, they just steal from our limelight!

write. give up your vices. move away. return to childhood loves. live to tell the tale!

White women being annoying

Started off reading paperback and had to switch to audio book bc I was really hard for me to get through. The start was interesting and I began to see some story unfold, but the rest of the book had zero plot and just kind of followed the main characters life. There wasn’t much character development, conflict, or resolution. I was never on the edge of my seat and honestly didn’t care much about Jacaranda by the end. The title honestly didn’t appear once in the book and didn’t make sense.

this would be a five star except for the fact that during the first third of the book I was hitting my penjamin a lil too much which then made my brain unable to shut up and I felt like I was going insane while reading bc nothing was making sense. part of me also didn’t care enough to go back and reread it so I guess this is my user error. But nonetheless I guess that still did impact my reading experience, so im giving this a four. otherwise this book was right up my alley.. so chaotic featuring incredibly messy characters who are perhaps a little bit evil… like yes please <3 unmatched summer vibes as well. I now want to go and munch deviously on a surfboard. so baller bro

This book feels timeless in its exploration of navigating adulthood, figuring out what to do with your life, and what it’s like to live in Los Angeles/how the world sees the city. Eve Babitz makes an insightful observation on nearly every page.
