I had a great time listening to this, even though I realized later that this was the third installment in series that I had not read at all. I thought my confusion was due to clunky writing, but no, I'm just a doofus. In other news, I can't wait to read the first two and figure out who these people are and why they're on this journey together!

This is by far my favorite that I've read from the series so far. I definitely had to go back and re-read the stories that are interspersed throughout the novella. There are so many things to love about this one:
• That in each of the main three stories Nie, Lao Bingyi, and Khanh take turns being the antagonist or "villain" in the story and being the protagonist or "good guy". It definitely made the reveal so good at the end.
• The return of Almost Brilliant who I sorely missed in the last novella. She's just so sassy and I love her interactions with Chih.
• Backstory on Chih?? My beloved Chih??

I love the entire way this novella was set up and I'm always so impressed by the way Vo is able to weave such an intricate and beautiful story in under 130 pages.

I can’t tell if this book was missing the impact the other books in the series had or if I accidentally read part of it while almost asleep, because the pieces didn’t come together for me. Still good though!
