I moving reflection on grief by Macdonald, who deals with the death of her father by deciding to train a goshawk. Highly recommend the audiobook narrated beautifully by Macdonald.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
I kept on picking this book up and putting it down for several weeks. Not a quick read by any means. Yet, it kept drawing me back. Beautifully written, original, it captures the feelings of the falconer after the loss of her father, but the comparison to White and his story, was often a stretch. The descriptions of the goshawk and the environment were compelling; one could see the eyes of the gos, and see the world through Mabel's eyes. Multifaceted, descriptive prose- worth the time spent to enjoy this book.

Every once in awhile I read an author that has such a strong style and voice that I find myself thinking in their voice. The writing in this book was beautiful and poetic--and strange--in the way Macdonald was able to bring to life the land and the hawk and the grief she felt for the death of her father. Fascinating reading about falconry a subject I knew very little about. Recommend.
Not as good as I thought it was going to be. I found it distracting that she kept delving into her fellow falconers story. I wanted her to focus more on her own story.

This is a unique and different book - not one I would normally read. Having said that, I absolutely loved it!
Helen MacDonald does more that chronicles her training of a Hawk. She shares her life, her deepest thoughts, and most of all her journey through the grief of her father's death.
I just loved the fact that this book was narrated by Helen herself (yes I listened on Audible) and somehow it make her journey so much more personal.
You will finish this book and consider, as I did, looking for a Hawk.
