Talk about a page turner, I spent almost all day reading this book. For some reason I'm completely fascinated when it comes to fraud on such a big scale. The insanity, the lies, the huge amounts of money and the mechanisms that allows people to keep a scam alive for such a long time, as long as they are charismatic and well connected. Incredible.

If you ever need to read about a genuine sociopath, Elizabeth Holmes is the woman to read about.

Amazing investigative journalism, I was awed and angered by how many people were fooled by this fraudulent technology.

There was a weird turn towards the end of the book where the viewpoint switched to tell the story of how the author ended up writing the story, which ended up repeating some information. But otherwise, well written and researched.
It’s absolutely terrifying how far personal charm, manipulation, and an unhinged confidence can take a person.

I'm tempted to also shelve this as "horror", because that's mostly what I felt while reading this book. I really want to sit down and write a thought-out review, but I need to digest it a bit first.

I do have one big thing I want to say about it, though. If this book isn't a stellar example and irrefutable proof of the fact that journalism is critically important to a democratic society, then I don't know what is. This book features some truly heroic characters, one of whom is the author, whose dogged pursuit of the truth of this story uncovered a fraud that could have put countless lives at risk. This is the true power of the press, and it is vital to the health and welfare of our society. Without it, unscrupulous opportunists would get away with far more than they already do.

Very informative but there was a lot of names and I keep losing track of who was who. I feel the story needed to be organized differently to help this.
