I love this book! Charming illustrations really convey both the fun and the politeness of this book. Such a cute idea to create truly ridiculous situations to illustrate everyday manners.

A lame book of manners for children that somehow won a Caldecott Honor. It is saved from mediocrity by the cute and ludicrous situations that the manners are applied to. And its always nice to see more Sendak illustrations.

I had to go back and read the original after being mildly disappointed in the sequel, but this one I still love nearly as much as I did in childhood! Such a funny and charming way to present good manners. One or two of the suggested phrases may be outdated (just in the sense the no one speaks quite so formally now) but even there the attitude of kindness and thoughtfulness is the main point.

Highly recommended for young children.

This seemed like it would be quirky and funny, but it left me cold. The idea is good, but the illustrations and the language are mostly lackluster. I also don't care for the fact that the boy gets to do all sorts of exciting things, whereas the girl's job basically is to be decorative. I did get a kick out of the Queen's spaghetti extravaganza (including the clever little side gag with the dessert hound).

One of my all time favorite books as a child. A fun way to talk about manners.

Oh, this is some great comedy. This had us all laughing at the absurdity of it. The whole set up is some strange things is happening, say someone is giving away baby elephants, what would you say to introduce yourself to the elephant. The response is always polite and things we are taught to say, but the situation is absurd. Any imagination kids come up with could be in here. What if a dinosaur bit your patient?

The artwork is by Maurice Sendak again. He was a busy bee. It’s all done in black white and blue and it looks just like his work.

This is a fantastic piece of work. It’s hilarious and all the kids and adults were cracking up and hooting and hollering. The nephew wanted to read this again. Both children gave this 5 stars and I was delighted by it as well.
