Cate C Wells does the damaged-heroine / persistent-hero trope over and over and I'm a big ole sucker for it everytime. Scrap was also much nicer in his monologue than previous books.

Pretty awful. There were times I literally cringed.
It is pretty gross that the main male lover interest was interested in a 16-year-old as a 21-year-old and spent 10 years fantasizing about a teenager. Scrap doesn't even know Krista yet he loves her? No time was spent developing either character's personality. The sex scenes were awful. I don't think this author has ever met a man or seen a motorcycle.
Gross. Very skippable.

I was supposed to be excited to read about Scrap and the heroine whose name I have forgotten since finishing the book yesterday. They were repeatedly mentioned in previous books, I’m presuming to build the hype, but we were only ever told of them and I never felt that connection. Sadly that connection was also lacking in this book too.

I still couldn’t tell you who Scrap and Christa are, other than a biker who went to prison for 10 years and a woman who has been unable to move on from an horrific attack a decade ago. That seemed to be their entire personality and it became boring at times. We spent far too long in their heads and saw far too little of them (re)building a relationship. I would go as far as to say that it was completely instalove and there was no attempt to develop the connection between Christa and Scrap. We were meant to believe these were re-emerging feelings from a decade before when they were 16 and 21. If that was Scraps age because we were told his Dad died soon after he finished high school and not long before the attack on Christa.

Scrap claimed he had been in love with her since she was a Freshman at school. I’m not sure if I was meant to find that romantic but it was a bit eww given Scrap would have been 19 and made any feelings he had for Christa back then feel more like a crush.

The story was good enough that I finished the book but I just didn’t feel the emotions or connect with the characters.

This book was brutal and yet love prevailed. I have enjoyed the entire series.

My favorite hero yet!

Scrap's patience and understanding (and also the way he "sees" Crista the way others don't) was swoon worthy.

I also loved the slow reveal when it came to Crista's fears/motivations. She was holding in a lot of pain in order to protect her family.

Tropes/Tags/CW/TW (may not be complete)
motorcycle club, dark romance, past SA, past graphic violence/gore, body dysmorphia, body shaming, PTSD, hurt/comfort, second chance, recovery.

The TW in the synopsis says violent crime, but if you're looking to read this one you should know that those violent crimes include rape.
