"You can't keep digging up the corpse of who you used to be, Wayne. You can't keep toting it around. Let him stay buried. Consider who you are, not who you left behind."
The Lost Metal is a fantastic end to era 2 of Mistborn, keeping the feel of the previous 3 books whilst also taking plenty of similarities to what we saw in the original trilogy. This book really felt like a great balance between the two eras with how Allomancy was used, bringing action scenes closer to era 1. It still very much feels like era 2, with a sprinkling of what I have loved previously. The danger was also ramped up giving the book a more epic feel to it, which we haven't seen too much it the last 3 books.
The Lost Metal is also easily the most Cosmere heavy book we have seen so far. Books like this are what initially got me wanting to read Brandon Sandersons works and it did not disappoint. I really loved getting to see references to previous books as well as planets and shards that have not been in anything up to this point. Perhaps the best part about this is that whilst there is a lot from different Cosmere books, you absolutely do not need to have read anything other than Mistborn to understand what is going on. You may miss certain easter eggs but that is about it. Even though this has a lot of Cosmere in it, the book is very much a Mistborn book. It follows the characters we already know and it is completely their own story. Anything relating to the wider Cosmere is purely adding to the story, not driving it.
Era 2, especially TLM, has been a great bridge between trilogy 1 and 2, and has set up the next trilogy very nicely. I am now eagerly awaiting the continuation of Mistborn.

I first read Mistborn in 2013 and haven’t shut up about them since. I haven’t shut up about the Cosmere and that eventually the books would all start to link. There have been slight mentions of characters and things, but THIS and NOW is where shit is going down. And I am so fucking happppyyyyyyyyyyy.
I feel like a 3.5/5 star undervalues my enjoyment of the book, but I have such a love for them and a high bar, they almost constantly blow my mind. But this one was more mind blowing Cosmere-wise than plot wise, hence the lower than average Brando Sando rating.
The fact that convergence is finally happening, the fact that they fucking mentioned Shadesmar in a Mistborn book has blagged my mind, and I still have Winds of Truth to read? I’m gagged.

Wow.
A little bogged down in some of the wider Cosmere stuff, but man oh man does Sanderson absolutely nail the BEAUTIFUL character arcs of the 4 leads. Really moving stuff.
