Listen. This book is good and enjoyable. The concept is so good. The execution is a little average in terms of being really heteronormative and problematic in places. But! I just really enjoy the experience of it tbh. Following Wanda on her journey to "going native." Watching her growing, developing, & changing. Seeing how the humans around her react to and interact with her. At its heart, it really is such an interesting & incredible story.
Also I definitely forgot how long and detailed this book is. Wild how high school me consumed it like nothing.

Idk I read it for a friend and for them I will not be too mean but I will say Stephanie Meyers you GOTTA STOP TRYING TO NORMALIZE PEDOPHELIA!!!!! STAHPPP!!! 16 and 17 are not old enough ages!!! Especially when the 17 year olds in question are with men TEN YEARS THEIR SENIOR !!!! Though in the case of one of the characters specifically, the age of her body is 16 almost 17 but her soul age is closer to a thousand human years so in Stephanie logic it doesn’t even matter, right? Here’s a quote from the end of the book for you to chew over and think on that:

“And then he kissed me in the most unplatonic way possible under the crowded circumstances, and I was thrilled to remember that I was smart enough to lie about my age.”
Thanks for that, Stephanie, thanks a ton.

Thank you Morgan for picking up this ARC at Midwinter and sharing!!!! If you never read anything by Stephenie Meyer because of the whole vampire thing you MUST READ THIS ONE!!!
I was so involved in this book that I couldn't go to sleep until I finished it (3 am) and then I kept on crying!!! I wasn't able to tell from her previous series if I just really liked vampire stories or if Stephenie was just a very gift story teller, able to make her characters so real that the readers are just drawn in completely. Now I know it is because Stephenie Meyer is an awesome writer!

A brief description of the plot: an alien life form has spread across earth taking over the minds of human and changing many things about earth to make it better: no violence, everyone works together etc. But one alien is placed into the body of a human who had resisted capture for a number of years and the human conscience is still in the body and able to communicate and share memories with the alien. The alien begins to fall in love with the memory of a human, basically forming a love triangle with two instead of three. Well, lets just say things don't go as planned after that, for either of them!

My expectations for this book were very low, mostly because I know it's a bit problematic and I had tried to read it once and didn't get past page 100. However, I gave it another chance and omg I really enjoyed it. maybe I'm easy to please, I don't know but I really, really liked it. And don't get me wrong, I understand why it's problematic, but I still really like the concept and execution.

I could understand everyone's point of view in this book, even if I disagree with some of them or even if the main character in the first half is insufferable, I still understood where they were coming from and I still felt some love for each of them, pity for each of them. so yeah, I really liked it.

My only real ick is the ending like s
why is wanda new body a child STOP isn't ian 20 something? horrible
but the rest I can overlook in order to enjoy the book
(this goes to my shelf: is it a good book? no, do I love it? yes)
emotional fast-paced

i think i would simply have to be under 20 to read this book tbh
