May 2015-I really enjoyed this book! I wish i would've read it before i watched the movie!

August 2016- Reread! Still love this book! Ian is such a babe, but when he found out Wanda's plan I was a little miffed that he hurt her so unconsciously. And it really bugs me how small they chose her next body. Drove me right up the wall for some reason!

July 2020- It's been a few years since I've read this book! Four years of university to be exact and my perspective this novel has changed. While I still enjoy most of the characters, the themes, the story itself, and the romance (I still love Ian, okay), I found myself considering Wanda's self-sacrificing nature in a new light. Self-sacrificing IS unhealthy to the extend shown by Wanda in this novel, but Meyer somewhat romanticizes it for young teens. Of course, it's important to be compassionate and kind, but Wanda surpasses this by always putting others before herself, thereby showing some impressionable young teens that this is what they should strive for. Self-compassion and caring about oneself is incredibly important to nurture in teens and, while I admire characters that are soft and kind in a harsh setting, I think Wanda's characterization takes it too far.
I liked how action-packed this novel was and this is what the novel mainly focuses on. What I hadn't noticed before was the lack of back story on many essential characters, such as Ian and Jared, that would have added depth to the story and made me more invested in them. I would have valued some real conversations of getting to know each character Meyer wanted the reader to focus on.
All in all, I enjoyed rereading this novel! I was nostalgic for the feeling I had as a seventeen-year-old reading this novel for the first time while rereading it!

Reading Challenge Prompt (2020): A book that's more than 500 pages.

It was an amazing book but I think it could be a lot shorter. I also think it's a good stand alone book and it doesn't need a sequal even though I liked it a lot.

was a slow starter but the story its self was original. After I got through the first 150 pages of bordeom it started to pick up. I found it to be thrilling, sad, and cultural. I cried at the end and would recommend this to any scifi friend

The writing was good, but at the same time I felt like nothing happened.

I didn't expect to like this book. Really, it didn't seem to deal with as many adult topics to me as the Twilight series does. Perhaps the violence is the same, even a degree higher. I enjoyed the exploration of the ranges of human nature. It does not seem as heartfelt as Twilight, but since it is considered science fiction, my expectation for a lot of emotional investment was low. Still, it exceeded my expectations.
