Reading this book made me realize what else I don't like about the Twilight books. The main character Wanda is so dramatic. It's really annoying actually. I would never want to be her friend. I felt the same way about Bella. She's not someone I would want to hang out with. At least in the Twilight books, there was Edward and Jacob. So in this book, while the alien invasion thing was cool, the characters were not!

As a Twilight fan, I found this book enjoyable, but after a while the MC, Wanda, becomes unbearable. Meyer picks the worst traits in Bella Swan and puts in to Wanda: the constant self-sacrifice, the assuming the worst without even looking to see what is actually happening, the overdramaticness, the selfish unselfishness, ugh after a while it just became constant and soooo boring and irritating!
The book is 200 pages too long. It feels like got a lot of the book not much really happens, just Wanda being the centre of attention and being so OP. E.g., she's famous for living so many lives, but wait! She's also a Mother, which is kinda rare and she's like royalty, but wait again! She had a really heroic story on another planet and is known for that too. It was just a bit much. I get what people say about the book being too wordy, it was a lot of extra pages not really saying much.
Some of it didn't even make sense. Like, I'm pretty sure I read that soils think suicide is absolutely deplorable and something they would NEVER consider, but then later in the book we see that actually, sometimes souls can kill themselves and they don't see it as murder. Meyer isn't known for her consistency.
The characters were varied and some kinda interesting. Ian is definitely my favourite as well as Jeb. I found it icky that Meyer make Wanda's new body 16 years old and had Wanda lie about her age so that she can continue her relationship with Ian. Don't know why she thought that was a good idea.
A lot of melodramatic, YA tropes in here, considering this is supposed to be a book for adults. The plot was okay. Very interesting premise but I think Meyer lost her way a little, the climax and ending was pretty rushed considering the rest of the book dragged a bit, and the ending felt a little underwhelming and disappointing. I would have liked a bigger section on Mel and Wanda talking together but in their own bodies.
Don't know. I know Twilight isn't a literary masterpiece but I actually think that was a better book than this. I still enjoyed this book enough to finish it, but the pacing was off, the MC was a bit irritating, and the ending was rushed and disappointing.
Also, the bit with the Seeker when she was helping prisoner was just so....awful. Like, I seriously contemplated putting the book down because that part just felt so stupid to me??? Honestly don't think I'll read this again. 3.75 as it scratches that itch that only Meyer can scratch, but I think I'll stick to Twilight in the future.

This was a phenomenal book with an OK ending. Honestly, I'm writing this review a few months after finishing it and I can't for the life of me remember how it ended. Which is sad, because the entire time I was reading it, I couldn't wait to see what would happen. The story was very interesting a definitely challenged some views on morality. It really made you question yourself and the world we live in. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't re-read it.
It took me a bit to get swallowed up in this one compared to Meyer's Twilight series. However, once I got used to the strange idea of arguing with another soul inside my own body I was instantly sucked in. Anyone looking for a good escape for reality while encompassing matters of the heart would enjoy this one.
Utterly long, boring, and bland. It was a pain to get through this book. I was greatly annoyed by Wanderer's weak personality the most.
I enjoyed reading The Host. It had some new and different ideas throughout the story. Definitely has a little more substance than some of Meyer's other books.
I enjoyed it, but I had a difficult time getting through the first 100 pages. Once the story picked up, my interest did as well. The ending was not predictable which I enjoyed. Some thoughts and ideas mentioned are still with me. I would recommend this book.
