Slow to get going, and I'm not quite sure about the ending (well, just what happens to Wanda, the rest is good), but the middle is excellent and engrossing. It didn't feel like a 600+ page book after I got past the first 150 pages or so.

Slow. Interesting concept. Lots of words for not a lot happening. Did hit the feels a little at the end which I didn’t expect

While The Host is very different from the Twilight saga (i.e., not a romance per se), it is still based in fantasy/science fiction. Stephenie Meyer's writing style is much the same throughout the Twilight Saga and The Host (I picked up on certain phrases or ways of wording things that were the same in both books, which made me chuckle several times). The beginning is a little slow, but it really picks up after that - it also has some similar themes to the Twilight saga and gives you a lot to think about. Very good overall!

So far, it's a fast and entertaining read, but the main character(s) are starting to annoy me a bit. Hopefully, they'll grow up before the book ends.

I have now read all of the books in publication right now by Stephanie Meyer and my love for her writing is growing stronger. When I first heard about this book I was skeptical only because I'm not a big science fiction reader, but I'm glad I gave The Host a try. I loved it.

The Host is a story about an alien who is living her first life on Earth and is trying to understand the human emotions her "host" Melanie is still having. The host is supposed to disappear once the soul is inserted into the body, but Melanie refuses to leave. She convinces her host, Wanderer, to go on a journey together to find Melanie's family who hasn't been taken by the souls and is now in hiding in the Arizona desert. Throughout their journey, Wanderer discovers life, love, friends and what exactly defines a human.

This is a great read for anyone who wants to read sci-fi, but doesn't want all the technical gibberish that usually goes along with the genre and doesn't mind a little love story along with it.

Ugh. I wanted less Twilight and more SF. I nearly made it to the end but just couldn't stomach the [spoiler alert:] alien-human love affair.[/spoiler:]

Gross.

A unconventional version of the standard story of a small pocket of humans against a massive alien invasion. This is really a study in human characteristics, good and bad, right and wrong, honest and dishonest. Quite a bit of romance, angst and self control that makes it feel like a story for teen girls. It's not the best sci-fi I've ever read, but feels like a book that happens to be about aliens but isn't exactly sci-fi.

This was good. The beginning was kind of slow and annoying, but overall I liked it. Not nearly as much as the Twilight series, but it did keep me entertained.

I loved this book! It starts out slowly but a few chapters in I couldn't put it down! Sort of sci-fi action book with a little love story thrown in there. I read it and then 2 weeks later had to read it again!
