Page 222 did it for me. my first tears of the book. I really evolved with the different personalities of this book and did find myself focusing on the era of each chapter. The one thing that surprised me was the rebellious nature…not having to do with the War but within the family. It may have come across as selfishness but at the end discovered it was only about finding yourself. I wish I got that feeling from the start.

i absolutely love generational stories, and this is one of the best i've read. i felt so attached to the characters and i really liked how we sometimes go back to familiar characters but at a later time, so the family felt more connected rather than just passing to the youngest. i does get slightly confusing towards the end if you are reading it over a longer period because there are so many characters, but also really rewarding having been with them for that long.

Maybe the greatest novel I’ve ever read. It follows a Palestinian family through three generations, across their diasporic communities. Heartbreaking and beautiful.
