A grim book--you will need something light after this. I have read other reviews and agree with them. The best part was Lex´s adoptive parents. The worst part was the ambiguity about nearly all of the pivotal points, including the ending. I hated the ending.

the narration suffered slightly from the jump from one timeline to another, but it was still easy to get invested in the story. most of the characters were developed enough, although the ending left me wondering what it would’ve been like to know some of the mom’s story.

I think this would be well-adapted into a mini-series!!

In no way would I call this a mystery and am surprised I found it in the mystery section of the bookstore. Regardless, the story is interesting - a dive into the life long recovery of intense child abuse.

As a fan of dark psychological stories, I had high hopes for this text. However, I feel that Dean skimped on the details that would add chilling, heart-wrenching depth.

HEARTBREAKING.
I was filled with dread every time I read from this book, and yet I felt compelled to always keep on reading! Story definitely draws you. Didn’t love the ending but it had be a little uplifting, I suppose.

This was intense. I loved it. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next, which was a nice change, and the gradual unfolding of the two different time lines worked beautifully. The only annoying thing was that in the e-book I read, it wasn’t clear when we had jumped timelines and a few times I had to go back a couple of pages and re-read for it to make sense.
