When this showed up on my doorstep I jumped for joy. What an awesome surprise from the publisher. This sounded right up my alley. Perhaps I went in with too high of expectations but it just did not work for me.
I struggled to finish this book and almost dnf’d a few times. I set it down for a few days about midway through and that did help to make the last 150 pages less of a struggle.
Chapters are very long with timeframes shifting by paragraph. This often threw me off and also made the pacing seem very slow and disjointed.
Characters felt very surface level. I wanted more from each of them. More of their experience in the house and perhaps maybe even some motivations behind the parents.
This is such a sad story with a revelation at the end but I’m not sure it made up for everything else.

Not really a thriller but there are a few twists and turns. This book does grip you even though it covers som pretty distressing subject matter. I really enjoyed this and it was a different take to the usual type of story.
A hauntingly detailed account of child abuse and the lingering effects of trauma. I found the distinction between the child’s POV vs the adults incredibly realistic. Apparently the ending was obvious, but it wasn’t for me - my entire stomach dropped

This book is pretty polarizing, it seems at least from past reviews. I actually liked the storyline and premise of it. I think there were a lot of ways certain things could’ve been clearer, such as the timeline, but overall, I enjoyed the book. It wasn’t my favorite thing ever but I didn’t totally hate it.
o livro é incrível. eu comprei ele sem saber nada sobre só porque tava numa promoção maneira na bienal e me surpreendi. não sei se eu concordo com a opinião estampada de "O MELHOR THRILLER DESDE GAROTA EXEMPLAR", mas realmente é um ótimo thriller. adoro histórias que você não sabe direito o que elas tão reservando ou o que elas realmente querem que você entenda, mas que a narrativa é gostosa e te envolve e você quer descobrir de verdade o que o livro tá tentando fazer. eu descobri. eu não esperava. foi realmente um plot twist. então, por isso e pela grande história e jeito maneiro de escrever, eu achei muito bom!
Urgh this book had such a good premise! I loved the story here, but the way it was told... not so much. Chapters were far too long, and time jumps were very irregular and confusing at times, particularly in the latter half of the book.
Dnf - the plot seemed good but the intro of the story instantly bored me and it didn't make me read on further
