Interesting book about three women and how they’re affected by the Spanish American war as it relates to Cuba and their fight for independence.

A powerful story that helped me to learn more abbot Cuba's fight for freedom. I had no idea Cuba was the location of modern day Concentration Camps and to follow revolutionaries and reporters through the story was a fresh perspective.

Fascinating era of Cuban history, told from several
Points of view and based in part on true stories. Really well written. I love the author’s plot development and characters.

This is a relatively easy read but I enjoy the historical significance. Having been to Cuba, I enjoy Cleeton’s books and learning more about the country and it’s people even if it is fiction. Four starts is probably generous for a less complex book but I enjoyed it enough that I can’t give it a three!

I love all the books in this Perez family tree. This one takes place at the end of the 1800s and introduced me to the NY newspaper wars, as well as provided insight into the Cuban War for Independence and the Spanish-American War. Not to mention an exploration into the real world of Evangelina Cosio y Cisneros.
