The Poison Within

4.06 AVERAGE

The audio & ebook also include A Late Bite to Eat (Inspector Skaer, #1.5). While set in Kasia Bacon's The Order Universe, this stands on it’s own, could be read/listened to in any order from the other books/audio, and doesn’t include or reference any characters from the earlier books.

The Poison Within: This was little bit darker in tone than the other Order books however, that didn’t affect my enjoyment at all. Investigating murderers, a sexual assault victim, and a fatal illness all weigh on Kayru.

A Late Bite to Eat:
This is a super short story. While technically it includes an F/F relationship – there’s no sexual content. It’s just a quick story following closely after the events of The Poison Within including a short feeding excursion for the vampire Eryssa. It’s an enjoyable bonus to the book.

Bacon again brings an engaging story, compelling characters, and a double HEA in a mere 90 minute audio. Brava!

Michael Fox continues to give all the characters unique voices and did a great job with the various emotions. He’s definitely on my “must listen” for narrators.

4 Stars!

Another win in the Order Universe!

This delivers on a dreamy law enforcement gentle giant who fiercely loves his lordship Count Ellydhar. Station and circumstance, and perhaps more, keep these two from being officially official, but Kayru will graciously treasure whatever moments he can get.

When duty calls Kayru away to investigate a triple homicide, he can’t help but side with the actual murderer, and he reluctantly asks his lover for help despite potential dire consequences. What neither expect is a returned favor that changes everything.

Full of yummy insecurity, doubt, and longing, this was another fabulous entry to the wonderfulness that Bacon has created!

I feel... bereft.

Because, I want more.
Reading these novellas is a special kind of torture because in just a few pages you get attached to characters and want more of them.

Elly and Kayru stole my heart. So sensual and romantic and sweet.

This is short, even shorter than the time indicates, bc there’s a short follow up included at the end. It is still really great with excellent vibes.

The Poison Within is just another perfect example that Kasia is the master of short story-telling. This one is a part of The Order series too, but you can read it as a stand-alone.

Inspector Käyru and Count Ellydhar are the main couple in here, and their social status and physical differences made them look like an odd couple, but in reality, they complement each other so well that they became one of my favorite pairings.

Käryu works as an inspector, which is kind of the police there, and Elly is the landlord of Radvadur, and a smart one by the way. To the outsiders of their relationship, they don’t have anything in common, but when they’re all by themselves, they bring the best in the other.

Unfortunately, Käryu doesn’t believe that he means the world to Elly because, at the end of the day, their relationship is destined to crumble. He’s convinced that people won’t just accept it, even though he is completely in love with his sweet Elly. In fact, he loves him so much, to the point that he makes a big sacrifice in order to get his lover healthy again, since he’s been coughing his lungs out for the last couple of weeks.

So, what’s the beauty of this book? That you can find a couple that has the type of partners that would risk everything for their significant other. You’ll have a mesmerizing prose, a romance that I’m sure you’ll be down for the moment you meet them, and side characters that are quite interesting too.

Käryu and Elly really pour sweetness and I was sighing with love over them. I would totally recommend you to give this one a chance!

A pretty good little read it probably would have been a bit better if the glossary was up front so we understood the world a bit better. The audiobook reader did a really good job though.
