Give Me Love

Corinne Michaels

4.15 AVERAGE

Give Me Love is the second book in the Rose Canyon series. I read it as a standalone and there were some references to the intrigue from the previous book. That did make it a little hard to follow but the author did try to give the backstory where necessary. The main characters were likable and had a strong bond with each other. They both had struggles from their past and their time in the military past they had to overcome.
After losing all her family, Blakely refused to experience that pain again. She kept everyone at arm’s length, but Emmett got past the walls she had built. She ran away from her feelings when her feelings grew too strong for her best friend and fake husband Emmett.
Emmett loved Blakely and understood her fears, but he was ready to move on with his life. He returned to his hometown of Rose Canyon, but his job and his investigations made him a target. Blakely’s arrival in town brings back all his feelings for her.
A beautiful and heartbreaking journey of a couple getting a second chance. It was truly a great story and I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Omg the feels! I cried so hard and had to stop for a bit to collect myself. Blake and Emmett were absolutely beautiful and made for each other. This story was painful but perfect. Can't wait for Holden's story.

Just when Emmett thinks his life is simple but happy, Blakely comes back into his life and sends everything upside down. Especially when she announces that they are still married and she refuses to sign the divorce papers. Not only did she spring this on his family and friends but also brings chaos into his easy going life. There are numerous time I was wondering if I was reading a Corinne Michaels story. Not typical but oh so good!! This storyline will have you laughing, panicking and finally sigh with happiness. A great addition to the series.

This book was swoonworthy! 5⭐️ read. Can’t wait for the next book!

"I didn't catch feelings, I fell like a brick to the ground in them"

Emmett and Blakely are so much fun together! Their banter and chemistry is off the charts. Blakely knows exactly how to push Emmett's buttons, and exasperate him, but he also gives as good as he gets! It's great to be back in Rose Canyon soaking up all the mystery and suspense!

When Blakely showed up at the end of book one, I knew I was going to end up jumping right into this book (cliff hangers work? Who could’ve know.)

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the others in this series or the Whitlock family series. It wasn’t a bad book by any means, but I didn’t connect with the story or the characters quite as much as the others. While really liking Blake, I thought her character was a bit inconsistent which got to be a little frustrating at times.

1000/5

Dare I say a good fake relationship is one of my favorites? I dare. As are friends to lovers and marriage of convenience turns into more, so this book was calling my name. This was my first book by the author and though it can be read as a standalone, there’s a continuing mystery that started in the previous book, so I wish I’d read the first book in the series before this one. There was enough information to follow the story but it was just vague enough that I missed those little details that weren’t repeated.

Emmett and Blakely were best friends who married during their tours in the desert, simply to get extra benefits and to be there for one another when things went bad, like when he got shot. She ran to his side but when things took a turn from friends to lovers, Blakely ghosted him and he never forgave her. Years later, Emmett just wants to finalize the divorce on their fake marriage so he can close that chapter of his life but when private investigator Blakely’s latest case brings her to his town, she wants to make things right with her former BFF. She quickly realizes it won’t be easy because she hurt him even more than she knew.

I liked Blakely and Emmett. She had a lot to make up for, but ultimately redeemed herself. There’s a fun supporting cast and a quirky small-town backdrop that plays a big part since Emmett is the sheriff. I liked the town and the characters but there was a cliché element to the setting and some of the secondary characters were typical small-town stereotypes, which is always a little disappointing. I enjoyed the story but I’m not sure I liked it enough to read another in the series.

I wish I was Blakely

It’s no secret I love women who kick ass and take names. Blakely is a total badass! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents.

Quick recap:

Blakely and Emmett were married while in the army. They claimed it was to have extra money, but they wound up falling in love. Eventually the slept together and Blakely ran from her feelings. Now she’s back to reclaim her husband and find a missing girl.

My two cents:

Like with the first book, I enjoyed the suspense. At one point I couldn’t put the book down and wound up staying awake an extra two hours to get to a quieter part of the book!

Unfortunately, the sex scenes weren’t keeping me awake. They were more fade to black than spicy. So if you’re looking for a burning hot spicy series, choose a different author.

At this point I’m a little tired of reading about long lost loves come back. I’m going to read a different series. Maybe some day I’ll come back to see how this ends. But I don’t feel the need right now.

Give this a try if you enjoy suspense books. The characters are funny and perfect for each other. They really understand and accept each other for who they are. Happy reading y’all!
