I loved Emmett and Blake’s story. You see their fake marriage/marriage of convenience become something real that both of them accept and work towards. The dual perspectives work extremely well in this book because the reader gets to see both sides of the relationship through their thoughts and actions, not just their words.

This book built really well off of Spencer and Brie’s story and the continuation was written very well.

It was a great combination of romance and action. The only thing I didn’t like was the pacing. The beginning and middle of the story seemed slow and unevenly paced. I had to push through but I’m so glad I did. I absolutely loved the way their story played out.

I can’t wait to read Holden’s story next!

i am proud of myself for finishing this cause boy did i struggle.

in the first one AT LEAST there was the (re)building of the relationship to keep us engaged.
here? dude not even a whole ass (view spoiler) plot was enough to keep me hooked
(view spoiler), the onion is at it's fucking core and they keep trying to peel that bitch.

i've been having such a hard time with the whole "one and done" or "i'll leave before it gets too hard" trope. i understand that some tension is necessary but the way fmc kept going on and on about how she wasn't ready for a relationship AND YET kept nagging this man about sticking around when he's been saying again and again that her presence was hurtful just cemented my distaste for Michaels fmcs.

besides, that was the most anticlimactic ending ever. THE MOST. THE MOSTEST.

✨ marriage of convenience
✨ second chance
✨ small town
✨ romantic suspense

When Blakely goes to the town her husband is that she hasn’t seen in 2 and half years she realizes just how wrong she was to run away all these years ago. She wasn’t suppose to get feelings for her fake husband and best friend. But now she sees him and she isn’t leaving this time. Emmett wasn’t suppose to fall in love with his wife, it wasn’t the plan but now she’s back and as much as he wants to be angry he wants her more. Blakely is in town for a missing girl that happens to be connected to the case that occurred in the first book.

I love this book. I love both of these characters from the very beginning. They were quick to try to fix things and didn’t drag it out the entire book which u appreciate. We get to see them talk and fix things and build something better together all while trying to stay alive. Both being ex military they’ve seen and done things to make trusting someone hard. Watching another person they love leave them. You watch Blakely face her fears and fall in love even if it’s hard and Emmett is so loving and protective from the beginning. They have a solid friendship first and that’s what makes their relationship so much better.

The suspense part kept me turning pages just trying to guess along with them who it could be. I had 5 different suspects in my head and was so shocked at the ending. I love not being able to predict who is what.

It was sweet, and sexy, a little swoony and a whole lot suspenseful. Definitely recommend to add if you love small town romances, gruff ex army turned cop and a take no shit heroine.
