Great potential in this story - poorly executed.
The story doesn’t feel “flushed out”, it felt rushed and, at times, cringey. I felt disappointed after reading because the plot could have been great, if the characters weren’t so unlikeable and again, cringey. When Kady’s alters fight in her mind and Bones refers to himself as a “bad motherfucker” (cringe) and a Beastie Boys soundtrack plays (cringe) while he uses a machine gun (cringe).
I also felt that the author did a lot of “telling” the reader about the characters and their relationships vs. “showing” the reader.

I went in blind, as was recommended, and it was alright. I couldn’t get past some of the outfits that the author put the main character in, it was really telling of what year it was written in.
When you hide in the dark the monsters can't get you. Please see my full review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1768902007
I went into this book blindly, like the author suggested and I'm so glad I did. I read the synopsis after finishing the book and this is definitely not one I would've picked up on my own if I had read the synopsis first. This book really opened my eyes to many things that I've never thought about before. It broke my heart but also raised awareness. I recommended this to my book club so I'm hoping others will read it blindly as well!

This book got hyped on bookTok for having a crazy twist. All I’ll say is if I know what the twist is 10 pages into the book, it isn’t that much of a twist.
The blurb for the book made me think that this was going to be a lot darker than it actually was. I was about to DNF but reading the reviews made me power through it and although there was a big twist, I still didn't end up liking the book.
So I will say the first time I heard of this book was on Tik Tok. The user applauded the book and advised the viewer to go in as blind as possible, since there's a huge twist waiting in the wings. Now, I admit, that IS what led me to pick up the book, but to be honest that's the exact kind of endorsement that makes me suspicious at every page turn. Since I've been built up to anticipate a GRAND reveal, my brain is already working in overtime, dissecting every scene, every vaguely worded sentence, every strange character interaction. I had already begun to anticipate the twist by page 15 or so.
I'm going to have a hard time rating this book, and my primary reason for that hard time entirely lies in what was revealed to be the plot twist. Therefore, all my thoughts from here on out are going to be hidden behind a spoiler tag.
Like I said, around the 10-15 page mark I had already thought that we'd have another DID Protagonist plotline, and I was disappointed to find it true. I quickly caught onto the fact that we never see Kady and Bones in the same scene at the same time, and I was immediately suspicious of the the ice cream shop scene with Presley. I also caught the clue about Officer Joe being unknown to the rest of the family so that was also a fun pay off! I also had suspicions about Pascale. I will admit I was surprised to see that Agatha was an alter, but I really should have known better. I will give the author credit: her ability to intertwine the characters into scenes, having them interact with Yeo seamlessly and without giving it all away to the reader was wonderfully done. She never DID mention Bones's physical appearance, did she?
That being said, the quickest way to lose me as a reader is to interject a DID plot 'twist' into your story. It's so exploitative, oftentimes just unrealistic, and in MY opinion a cop out for a writer's attempt to subvert the plot by creating an unreliable narrator but "Hey it's alright because she's mentally ill!"
I won't say this was a bad book. I actually think (despite some very cringey and bodice-ripper lines from Yeo on every fifth page) it was written well. I read it in one day- I constantly found myself wondering what was going to happen with these characters. Also I was taken back at how much SMUT was in this book, haha, but we all love a good smutty book once in a while so that was a surprise more than anything.
I'm torn about my rating. It was well written and page turning, but the plot twist lost me. If I had KNOWN the plot twist going in, I would not have read it. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book to anyone, unless that someone was really really into. It was okay- didn't particularly like it....I think I'm going to land on 2.5/5

Give this book some time - things don’t start to come together until 60% or so. I went into this book blind so I don’t anticipate ruining it for anyone else. I struggled through this book and wanted to put it down and I’m glad I didn’t. The remaining 40% of this book really made me connect to Kady and what was going on in her life; it made me appreciate the book a lot more.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE BOOK.
I didn’t read any reviews about this, I’d gone book blind and that is probably the best reading decision I have ever done.
I will not make any summarization about this book, I’d say read this with an open mind, empathy in your heart and a deep understanding.
Kady and Yeo are amazing. I know that this is a work of fiction but the author is simply incredible to come up with a story like this.
I wish that all the Kady’s in the world have their own Yeo’s, he is that prince, with a never-ending force of love, that will scoops you in his strong, capable arms, who will protect you from all the beast and wicked witches and black magics. Someone who makes and fulfill his promises.
This book is heart breaking and heartwarming at the same time.
Hands down, a 5 stars for me.
