This book deserves a much wider audience than it currently has. It is written so that you hurt with her, you laugh with her, you cry with her. What makes this book truly special is how she makes you laugh when you don’t want to. When she’s just told you something that punches you in the gut, she somehow puts a line in that is unbelievably funny.

I feel honored to have read about this woman’s life and I passionately believe that more people should be reading it, as well.

Brutal and hilarious. Ms. Pat’s comedy shines through through her story.

I really enjoyed this memoir. Ms. Pat’s story of growing up in the hood and making it out of there to the suburbs of Indianapolis is incredible. It’s sad and funny and eye-opening all at the same time. It gave me a lot of food for thought on what life is really like for poor folks in America. An educational as well as entertaining read.

Incredible story! I laughed and cried and felt sorry for her and proud of her! I cannot imagine the life she led growing up and to come out of it putting all the good out in the world is a blessing!

Ms. Pat is a comedian but her life story is definitely not funny. She grew up in the ghetto, had two children by the time she was 15, sold drugs, spent time in jail, and yet, through all of this, she was always looking for a way to make her life better. She found it.

I can't do justice to this book in a review; it requires a conversation. It's not that it was that great, just that there's a lot to unpack and think about.

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨⁣

Rabbit: A Memoir by Patricia Williams⁣

TW/CW: drug abuse, alcohol abuse, domestic violence, gun violence, drug dealing, death of family members, language, sexual assault, rape, child abuse, neglect⁣

First of all I want to say a HUGE thank you to my sweet friend Mel @ohthebooksshewillread for recommending that I listen to this memoir. I loved it so much.⁣

This is not an easy story to listen too, as you can tell by the content and trigger warnings I’ve included, I may have even missed some. But this memoir was the ultimate rags to riches story. ⁣

Patricia Williams has had to overcome more obstacles that one person should ever have to in their life and she talks about that openly and honestly in this book. I appreciated her candidness and her transparency. It was these things that made her story really resonate with me even though our upbringings couldn’t be any more like night and day.⁣

I don’t know that this story wouldn’t have been the same without Miss Pat’s humour. Her life had some VERY dark times in it but she uses her humour to weave this memoir in a way that can’t help but have the reader almost always smiling, and laughing out loud many, many times.⁣

This was a fantastic read (listen) and if you love memoirs I am highly recommending you read or listen to this one. There are lessons of perseverance and survival here to learn for all of us ♥️

All you have to do is dream. And dream she did. A hood rags to riches kinda of story.
