Simple plot. No tension. Almost a DNF. Summer or airplane reading at best

This was one of the most mundane and boring 'thrillers' ever. The premise is fine and I think the characters could have had something but the way the story is told is just lacking and lazy. It's like Grisham (or maybe a ghostwriter) submitted the outline and first draft and it got published by mistake.

There is very little in the way of mystery and 'figuring it out' along with the characters. The story gives you who is a good guy and a bad guy literally. It also feels like it skips to get through the plot instead of using the characters to actually do things. There are several times where it just tells you that things have happened that could have been good story telling moments but instead they are just given as facts.

There is supposed to be some danger but aside from one instance there isn't any. The close escapes that are normal in thrillers is absent. I haven't read a Grisham in a long time and now I wonder if they are all this bad.
