I’m being generous by giving this book 2 stars.
When I wrote a summary in my book journal, it sounded even more ridiculous. It’s predictable. I really don’t like romance books so I should’ve known better.

This novel alternates timelines each chapter, which made it a slow start for me. Honestly, if it hadn’t been for my campground book club, I probably would have put it down around the 15% mark. But by the halfway point, the story drew me in, and I ended up enjoying it much more than expected. At its heart, it’s about women finding their place in the world, but it also weaves in intriguing paranormal elements that keep you questioning what’s real and what isn’t until the very end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
The Lost Bookshop started out so good! I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I was kept intrigued throughout the first 1/3rd of the book, but somewhere around chapter 19 I started losing interest. I’ll preface this by saying I cannot stand cheating in stories… sometimes it’s just not necessary to the plot, which is how I felt about the cheating in this book. But alas, here we are.
I couldn’t quite catch the vibe. At first, we were whisked away with promise of adventure and a new life and then all of a sudden we’re being locked up and tortured, and before you know it we’re in love again with another new person. It’s all over the place. And don’t get me started on the arc of Henry and Martha… I swear life would be much simpler if people would just TALK to one another instead of insinuate and assume.
The pacing was up and down in weird spots, and it was difficult to really sink into the main plot with the way these characters were written. Regardless of those facts, I was still sucked in and read this book fast as lightning. I really NEEDED to know how it’d all would turn out, so that tells me that it was interesting enough to keep going and give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. Rounding up because the ending was magical.
