The Wrong Bride

Plot: the heroine is in love with her sister’s fiancé. The sister postponed the wedding and the heroine ended up marrying the guy bc of [reasons.]

This trope typically doesnt work for me, but every once in a while we need a messy book. Maura does an excellent job to ensure there's no cheating involved. Hooray! The Wrong Bride is really about pinning and angst. The heroine has a lot of insecurities and trauma because of her toxic relationship with her family, so if you're not up or if it's that one of your trigger I would recommend proceeding with caution. The sequels sounds so exciting because of the excellent family dynamics from the hero's side.

The Wrong Bride is, of course dramatic, because of the plot. The climax was prolonged because of the sister storyline which was brought up over and over again. I didnt like that, I wish the author wrapped it up sooner. Overall, I'm waiting for the sequel because the plot reminds me of What's Wrong with Secretary Kim.

moment of honesty… so repetitive!!
ares and raven have sex.
hannah shows up and makes a scene.
raven gets upset and tells ares she’ll never feel like enough.
ares and raven have sex.
repeat.

I did not care for Ares at all. The storyline was kinda sloppy in my opinion and the typos really annoyed me.

I’ve never hated the elderly more than I did with the grandma. Also I hate rich people and this book reminded me why. Why are we romanticizing censorship?? We’re better than this

I was HOOKED in the beginning. I was loving it all. I still think about the scene when shes drunk on her lap, I love the tension and the forbiddeness. I also liked the premise of the book and would like to read another book with a similar premise. But I was constantly bored and sick of the repetitiveness during the middle of the book. It was always the same thing. Raven and Ares are secure in they're relationship. Something happens with Hannah or Raven is reminded of Hannah. Now shes insecure and will say something along the line "You will always choose hannah over me. Im second choice." And then Ares has to reassure her. And then back to a secure relationship and the cycle repeats. A lot of people think that Ares was sending mixed signals but I don't think that at all. Throughout most of the book he makes it clear that he loves Raven. Hannah was so one-dimensional and just plain bad that it was comical. I don't know why there is no depth to her. Also, randomly put in the book that Raven is a donor baby near the end. Another random thing was Ares saying at the end that he knew about all of Hannahs affair but earlier in the book before he even got with Raven it didn't seem like something the author thought to add as subtext at least. This was also apparent with Raven being the girl he was with on Sierras 21st birthday. Like not once in Ravens POV did she mention it but I feel like it is something that she would. Again I really enjoyed the first 40%, after that it went mid and downhill. I really like the "unrequited love" but eventually turning into mutal love. Also this guy fell in love with Raven in like 2 days. And the author did not do a very good job of at least having Ares think he actually loved hannah a little bit. I don't know if i will carry on with this series or not. I might do just because it is a light and easy read and the books seem at least mildly interesting.

Thank you so much to Tandem Collective Catharina Maura Source Books international and Bloom Books for having me on the readalong for The Wrong Bride 🩷

I loved this book so much I finished it within a 24 hour period and could stick to the readalong schedule as I was desperate to know what happened and what came next!

We follow Raven and Ares, Ares is engaged to Raven’s older sister, but it was always supposed to be Raven. The marriage is arranged between their families to help with the business ties.
When Hannah, Ares sister, changes the plan completely can Raven really face marrying the man she’s always loved, when he has always loved her sister?

I ate this up, the spice was incredible, Ares is the dirty mouth possessive MMC that I dream of. You also can’t go wrong with a millionaire romance where he can buy her everything she has ever wanted!

I didn’t know much more than that when I went into it but I didn’t need to know anymore, I could not put it down, it was so easy to read and just kept me turning page after page. I need everyone who loves a spicy romance (with a sprinkle of taboo) to read this book!
Also the cover is a stunner 😍🩷
fast-paced

This was just what I needed. A book filled with self-pity, unjustice, perfect scenes for crying out of frustration or sadness. I. ATE. IT. ALL. UP.
