I found this book to be very rambling and difficult to discern a plot, a message, or a theme. I am interested in reading more of the author’s work as I do not believe this is his best.

I learned a lot of interesting history, but the book was more about various tangents with Malcolm X than about say the in-depth interviews that Reed did with him.

A rambling string of consciousness that had little to do with Malcolm X aside from the author interviewing him at random points in his life, and the author comparing his life at different stages to Malcolm X’s

A personal take on US history and Malcom X. Educational, well-written, and sadly current.

I didn’t *dislike* this book. I just feel a little duped. I thought this was more about Malcolm X. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed hearing Reed’s personal stories, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.

I really appreciated learning how challenging it was for Black people to learn their own history and how much important work has been done to rectify that by writers, historians, artists, families and other members of Black communities.

This audiobook was free and I found the synopsis interesting. Based on the synopsis, I expected more. Although Malcolm X was discussed, it wasn’t in as much depth as I thought it would be. It was however nice to hear how Malcolm influenced so many in the arts and impacted their lives.
