Not every story in this collection was a 5-star read for me, but the experience of reading the entire book definitely was.

Do you understand? When I am done telling you these stories, when you're done listening to these stories, I am no longer I, and you are no longer you. In this afternoon we briefly merged into one. After this, you will always carry a bit of me, and I will always carry a bit of you, even if we both forget this conversation.

Invisible Planets is a great collection of science fiction short stories from Chinese writers who highlight their culture and their society in their works. It's not a mixed bag as you usually expect from anthologies. There are a few scattered here that were just plain or "meh" but most of them are great. Some of the notable titles include Tongtong's Summer, A City of Silence, Folding Beijing, Circle, and Taking Care of God—last two titles of which are from Cixin Liu, author of the Remembrance of Earth's Past series.

The book also features essays from the some of the writers which gives us a peak at their process and science fiction in China as a whole. I am disappointed, though, that these essays draw a comparison only between Chinese science fiction and Western science fiction...

It was good, but I think I didn't get it. I'm bad at text interpretation, metaphors versus direct text, I'll try to find someone to tell me what it's about. It is very good though, I'm the one not good enough for this story.

Amazing, wonderful.
When I read the City of Silence, I thought, this is it, this is the worst possible outcome. But then I got to Folding Beijing & I had to eat my words.
I loved the Circle, it's making me think I might read 三體 sooner than I planned, Invisible Planets was extraordinary & A Hundred Ghosts Parade Tonight was so familiar to me, I can't explain it.
Year of the Rat, I love so much, it's the best, I don't have words!!!

Excellent selection of short fiction. I think either "Folding Beijing" or "The Year of the Rat" are my favorite stories.
