I tried to go through this book without being too harsh with comments. It’s not necessarily bad, it’s kind of a cute idea, but it is confusing in places.
I don’t think it has the motives very well thought out. I have the feeling that it says at one point something, then all of a sudden they say somehow the opposite, but then again the first thing. It’s confusing to pinpoint a precise motive of the heroine, for example. I am not sure what to make of her.
I believe some behaviors of the MMC make no sense for his character (ex: screams in a pillow, rushes to clean his room before FMC arrives - weird for his character, he is a king…)
And to add more to the confusion - it’s the first time I am reading a book written in third person and I notice the jump from one character’s mind to another’s. So here we are in FMC’s mind, and all of a sudden it jumps in MMC’s mind, and it takes me a line or two to realize that, and I have to re-read sometimes. So that is a lot to work on.
I liked the idea. The execution though..
Beware: it is very dragged on. It didn’t need to be this long. The inner thoughts are so long and repeated.

I finally read my first Emma Hamm book! And it's a sexy world that I cannot wait to read more of!
I'm a big fan of the seven deadly sins personified, and I was so interested in what this world would be like. Overall, I really enjoyed this. The writing is fast-paced, very readable, and there are some great lines that are just so emotional. I really enjoyed Lust, and getting to meet his brother, and I can't wait to meet the rest of this group of men.
Selene and Lust have such a beautiful relationship. For him being the personification of Lust, this book had a bit of a delicious slow burn through it. I loved the importance of trust that Selene puts forth, that she must have that with him. I love that this forces him to go about things in a new way, and learn about her and also himself at the same time.
The last quarter of the book was literally un-put-down-able for me! So much action and high stakes going on. And I adore Affection, IYKYK. I won't say too much else to give away any spoilers, but I love how everything played out at the end with them and Lust especially.
I will say, my main reason for going with 4 stars instead of 5, is that I'm not sure that I quite understand the motivation of Selene's "mother" Minerva? It seemed like Lust ran his kingdom very fairly, so I guess she just wanted his power and position? Honestly, even the motivation for Selene seemed unsure. Also, for readers who get frustrated with a constant push/pull and 1 step forward/2 steps back, there is a lot of wavering with Selene in the middle of the book.
Still, very solid first book in the series and one that I am definitely going to be continuing with!
I received a copy from MTMC Tours for an instagram tour!

The world building fell a little flat for me. Which is not what I’m used to having read Emma Hamm’s Heart of the Fae series. There’s the basic introduction of there being 7 kingdoms like floating isles each of which is ruled by one of the 7 demons. It felt rather confusing when it came to the history. The demon kings have reigned for a 1000 years, but there’s no true exploration of how Lust came to power and how it changed the land. The sorceresses supposedly hate Lust and everything he stands for but there’s no solid explanation given of why that is and why they consider themselves as better fit to rule. Their motivations and consequently their characterisation felt rather nebulous. The exploration of lust being rather one-dimensional and the opposite of trust and love was very intriguing on the other hand, so the I can let the meagre world-building slide. What felt odd though was that the book had some 3 points at which I thought it was going to be over only to discover there was more coming that needed wrapping up. In the end I found the characters interesting enough to continue reading and the overall journey of what it takes to go beyond lust for a true connection.

Loved this book. Spicy and delicious compared to some of Emma's other writing but I adored it! I can't wait for the next book to come out.
When I saw that Emma Hamm was writing an adult spicy book, I ran so damn fast to it! Her writing is for sure one of my favorites. She demands attention, and I'm always sucked in!
The Demon Court by Emma Hamm is an adult romantasy about seduction, temptation and love. A young woman training to be a sorceress is assigned to seduce a demon. The problem is, this demon is the embodiment of lust, who has lived centuries ruling a kingdom using his power of one of the seven deadly sins!
This book was so fun to read, and it was fast-paced. It is a major slow burn with intense sexual tension! It's super hot with enemies to lovers vibes. The way Lust used his magic was so cool and unique. I loved how Emma described the Lust's castle and where it was set, definitely had my imagination soaring.
I, for sure, recommend this book and can't wait to read more!

I really tried to love this book because of all of the awesome things it had, like a guy in a corset who also paints himself, and finally a character who is adopted doing something other than betraying her family. But I couldn't do it. The plot of this one moved very slowly, and it caused me to not want to finish.
