The bad rude mean pigeon gets a cookie. How is this a good idea. With the typical not all that good art, though it's not exactly bad art. With lots of references to the other pigeon books. Whatever. Just no.

One of my favorite pigeon books, “The Pigeon Needs a Bath” being my #1. That’s one smart ducky.
Mother Tongue Notes: In general, Mo Willems’ books include many contractions, conversational words or phrases and onomatopoeias . Examples in this book are: y’know, whaa?, scoot, and chomp. If dividing the reading, the more advanced reader should take the pigeon’s lines.
Discuss polite words and phrases used in conversation. Emphasize the use of “please” in English, versus a lack of equivalent in Swedish, or use of “tack”.

I love, love, love, love Mo Willems' books. He can do no wrong for me, and The Duckling Gets A Cookie!? is another winner. Although the Pigeon books are great for read-a-louds, the joy of the Pigeon books is the look on Pigeon's face--frustration, longing, conniving. A Pigeon book doesn't necessarily break new ground in children's picture books, but it is consistently good. And, really, what is wrong with more of a good thing?
Great opportunity to talk about cause and effect in this funny story that follows poor Pigeon's angry antics when he sees polite Duckling get a cookie.
