Knowing why the author worked on this graphic novel only makes it harder to go through. I watched one of the movie adaptations before discovering this so I knew what I was getting into, but it was still extremely tough to go through. I loved all the references to poets and writers with quotes about death, and Eric's own twisted responses.

It’s dark & messy and intensely personal, James O’ Barr gave his all with this gothic tale about grieving & self-forgiveness.
