3.5 stars. Pretty depressing insight into military wife life. But it also highlighted a lot of the positives too.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than I'd anticipated. There are so many things that I've never really stopped to consider, and this title gave a new perspective. I also really appreciated the raw honesty of the situation. I think that the view point of liberals in the military is one that is rarely voiced, and it's an important one.

I thought I would enjoy this more than I did. I was hoping to get a better understanding of military life on the home front , but it felt more like a personal journey through depression and marriage issues.

Simone’s writing is impeccable. While I can’t say I’m super into the army, I was certainly invested in the lives of the wives. A wonderful memoir!

I saw this on BOTM and thought well I enjoyed Army Wives back in the day- give it a try. I wasn’t feeling a romance yesterday so sat down to start this one and this book took a hold of me. Amazing writing, intriguing characters and story, war through a different lens, and felt right for the weekend. Simone gives us a lens into not only her life but those around her in the Unit. Her struggles with move and change - her husband in Afghanistan or training for months on end - and trying to figure out her self and their marriage through it all.

I enjoy these looks into something I don’t know much about - the anthropologist in me now wants more and will be quizzing my vet coworkers about some of it but I highly recommend as it has not only coming of age story and a love story vibes but also a clue into one “side culture” within American society.
