This well-written memoir helped me understand the perspective of being military wives.  It was an interesting look into the lives of women who are always sharing their husbands with the government and the struggles military members face when having to put their careers before their families. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

You know sometimes I think I give dependas too hard of a time and then I read this. This is so ✨dependa core✨ it’s nauseating.

Simone’s experiences were not my experiences but we do have a lot of shared experiences. There is a sisterhood with any military spouse that is based on relinquishing control and the journey you travel to acceptance. At times I found her a little whiny, wanting special treatment, or a “pick me” girl. But I also know that seeing her this way is a knee jerk reaction, something I’ve been trained to think of anyone who doesn’t just blindly accept this way of life. Our husbands entered active duty the same year so I was constantly comparing her journey to mine - where was I in 2014? By 2016 had I understood yet what was expected of me? There were plenty of questions and anxiety she had that I identified with and I felt for her. And in the end I got a little misty thinking of my own pack of The Wives and how we’ve dispersed. There have been many stations with many groups of women, all special in their own way. But none quite so cherished as that first group who I learned everything I know with. Anyway, 4 stars for emotional depth.

I have immense admiration for this author. Her writing is honest and beautiful and the intimate look we get into her life as an army wife is a gift. I learned so much and read eagerly.
I was surprised by some of the more negative reviews I read going into this book. Some of them portrayed this book as overly political — it isn’t. The reviews calling this book “anti-American” disappointed me and I hope that they won’t stop anyone from reading the book regardless of their political views.
The Wives has my full recommendation.
