An honest and gripping account of a marriage surviving through the vacillations of the military and a tribute to the strong partners who hold their spouses and one another up.

This book felt so deeply personal to me, as the writer describes her early experiences as a military spouse. While many of our experiences were very different, the heart of her message is the same - the military wife community is truly a sisterhood. I can’t claim to relate to every experience she had, as the global war on terror looks completely different now than it did in 2011, and I don’t know a lot (anything? lol) about enlisted special ops service member culture. I also disagreed with some of her thoughts on army culture, and could see how it could ruffle feathers. It was also a bit long and I think it could’ve been about 50 pages shorter and still packed a punch. But I hope a lot of people read this book and see how much service members and their families go through. It’s truly a window into military life.

As a seasoned Army wife I was not optimistic that this book would be truthful in its depiction of life as a military spouse. I have to say I was pleasantly disappointed. Ms Gorrindo did an outstanding job showing the reader what it is like to be the spouse of a special operations soldier. I highly recommend to all of my fellow military spouses so that you can find validation in your roller coaster emotions. To anyone who has ever wondered what it’s like to be the spouse of a soldier please read. This book was more than I thought it would be and everything I didn’t know I needed.
