I hate to give a memoir anything under three stars but I feel I have to be honest in terms of the writing and whether the memoir was able to hold my attention. I do feel that Gorrindo had some interesting life experiences and I felt for her regarding the loneliness while her husband was deployed and the disconnect she felt with the other army wives. I just could not get in to this memoir though, it did not captivate my attention as much as I was hoping it would. I also felt like there were some aspects of her life that she was keeping too neat and tidy for the reader.

This was a very interesting memoir for me and not something I thought I would connect to as much as I did. It was thought provoking, insightful, allowed me to reflect and learn about military relationships in ways I never had. It was heavy at times but it’s one of those books I’m really glad I read it.
