This book opened a fascinating window into the lives of a group of wives of soldiers in a special operations unit of the U.S. Army. The narrator’s struggles are relatable, and the community she finds with some of the wives is moving. I always knew military spouses (mostly wives) are strong, but I’d never understood some of why and what they go through. Four stars only because there are spots where the story seems to skip and I was left wondering what happened.

Honest and unflinching, Simone opened up her world and let us see the beauty and ugly that exist simultaneously. I’m grateful for that small peek through her window and into her soul.

This was an interesting an honest account of one woman’s struggle to come to terms with her husbands pursuit of an army career and how it impacted their relationship.

We see the beauty of community as Simone connects with other army wives as they help and support each other with accepting and loving with husbands that had difficult and dangerous professions.

We also see the challenges of marriage when placed under extreme conditions such as a spouse or partner being continually deployed and not present in the home and how that impacts marital relations.

I adored this book. The author is a beautiful writer. Her word choice, syntax, and imagery is really beautiful. And the heart felt nature of this memoir makes the authors feature and anxiety so relatable even though her circumstance isn’t relatable. It’s just a brilliant novel.

This was really interesting, especially as someone who is not connected to military life and can’t possibly understand what it’s like. This story is particularly unique because her husband’s decision to join the military happens after the establishment of their relationship, which I think provides a really interesting viewpoint. The community Simone builds in Georgia is strangely comforting and a good reminder that people really can endure and come together when they need it most. I learned a lot and felt this was really well-written.
