Do you want to unapologetically snort-laugh and shoot coffee out your nose? Are you a 20-something small town girl looking for relatable content?? Look no further. Reading Mercado’s book of essays is like having a sleepover with your best friend. She let’s you in on the would-be embarrassing stories of growing into an adult in the 99s/early 2000s (they are NOT embarrassing because she tells them so well, like sharing a hilarious secret).

Did I feel called out when she talked about the GREATEST SCENT OF ALL TIME — “Flannel” by bath and body works?? Yes. Did I immediately buy a flannel candle?? Yes. Thank you for the reminder, Mia.

When she discussed AIM did I recoil upon remembering my old screen name “blueblueblui45”? Named because I was an 8th grade anime girl who wanted to rename myself “Blui”? Only a little bit.

I recommend this book for the best laughs and the best moments of semi-shameful nostalgia. You won’t regret it.

This entire book is just stolen tweets that someone rants about, and it's just as cringy as you'd imagine.

This might be funny to a child or a boomer a decade ago, but even by 2020 all of the "jokes" were already so tired and worn out.

Mia poked fun at the whole concept of the nlog, but then became the very thing she feared, cause 'omg she just doesn't like super heroes, like at all, and neither does her sister and they're clearly the ONLY people who think that way!' Also, why is there a letter to Mia's sister that was just soo uncomfortable to read through?

There was so little content in this book that just wouldn't end. This entire book is the filler you write at 3AM when you're just starting a ten page paper due by 8AM.

3.5 ⭐️ funny, relatable, quick read.

Made me laugh out loud on more then one occasion, but for every hilarious or touching essay there were far too many forgettable ones.

And a couple that made me cringe really hard. I'm sorry overall I would recommend it as a quick and enjoyable read.
I gave it 4⭐ because I feel bad leaving a low rating

Mia had me laughing out loud and interrupting my friends’ lunch conversations to read them excerpts about childhood email addresses, IUDs, bad dates, and shitty underpants. I’ve never felt so seen in the pages of a book. I think reading this at 26, the winter before my wedding and impending graduation - the future push off the cliff of adolescence into the great abyss of adulthood - was inspiring and comforting. She also helping me feel the kick in the pants I needed to write the “meet cute” story of me and my fella in my wedding website. Mia I love you, and feel like I know you.
