Okay so I totally messed up. I didn't realized until I was like 50 pages into this book that they are supposed to be read in a certain order. So this review will be short, and I'll probably come back and edit it when I read the first two books and hopefully understand it. Basically the only thing that I have to say about this book is that it didn't have enought Ursula in it. I expected this book to be all about Ursula and her point of view of what was happening during the Little Mermaid but I feel like she was barely in it. Maybe half the book was through her perspective and the rest was following Princess Tulip and the Odd Sisters. And when the book has through Ursula's point of view, I felt like there wasn't much to it. So I am hoping maybe my thoughts on this book will change once I read the first two, but we will see.
Well this book was incredibly disappointing, how is this the story of the Little Mermaid from Ursula's perspective when Ursula is barely in the book?!
I mentioned in my review of book 2 that the three sisters really annoyed me, well guess who this book is mainly about (no not Ursula, where would you get that idea from!?). It made the story practically unreadable which is a feat for such a short book with large text. Ursula was probably featured in about 20-30 of the 200 pages. She is a side character in her own book?!
I absolutely love Ursula and she might even be my favourite Disney villain however I just felt like this book didn't do her justice, there were so many other things going on and the story just rarely focused on her.
I'm not sure there's much more to say, I really would not recommend this book. It isn't really about Ursula, more about three ridiculously annoying witches who I absolutely despise. Don't be sucked in by the idea that this is about Ursula's backstory, it really isn't.

Clever idea. But it tried too hard to be too many things.
I enjoyed this! It was a super quick read that combined the animated Disney version of the story with the author's ideas about how Ursula came to be. I had fun reading about the sea witch's background story.
Cribbed way too much from the movie. Did not provide a compelling backstory for our villain at all. Isn't the point to make me feel something for the villain or at least to give a new perspective? I don't think this added anything to the story in general or specifically to Ursula.
Eh. It was just okay. Didn’t really learn anything new Ursula. Tulip was a really bizarre character for me and didn’t make any sense to have her in the story. It was confusing and all over the place. 2 starts because it’s still Disney and I still like it for that.
For being the third book in the series, there was a lot of talk about Maleficent and her relationship with Ursula and the Odd Sisters. There were a lot of holes, like we should’ve known what was happening. The Disney movies didn’t fill in those holes. I know the Maleficent book is fourth and I could’ve just started that one before this one, which I tried. But the first page has references to the Ursula book. So I don’t like that all that much, but otherwise I’m still excited to finish the series.
I got this book because I'm an Ursula fan and the idea of learning her backstory sunded good. The story is good and it does give some understanding to why she pretty much hates Triton - but it didn't seem to be the focal point - hence only 3 stars. I have not read the other 2 stories, which would be good because there are points in this one that allude to connections in the others and connections between supporting characters and other Disney villans
This wasn’t a terrible book but it focused a lot on The Odd Sisters more than it did Ursula which would be fine if the book wasn’t specifically meant to be about Ursula.
I also didn’t find a lot of depth to the story - Triton was a lousy brother but we all knew that. Ursula deserved more spotlight in this one.

Of 200 pages, this was 150+ pages of filler. Total disappointment.
