This was billed as a story about Ursula. The little mermaid from the perspective of the villain. It was not.
Instead it was a building of this fantasy world that has villains in it. I feel like the author was so interested to tie everything together via the odd sisters, with Circe, with Princess Tulip and her witchy Nanny, with leading into Maleficent, that she actually forgot about Ursula.
We get the scene from Poor Unfortunate Souls, including lyrics. We get a scene where she explains to the sisters why she hates Triton. We get a scene where she turns into Vanessa. That's it, basically. Even the finale we see from the odd sisters perspective, as they watch it unfold through a mirror.
After reading a very short book we still know nothing about Ursula. I don't care about the odd sisters or the witchy Nanny or Princess Tulip. I want to read about Ursula.
Completely missed the point here.

[Paperback] I love how these books connect, but as Ursula isn’t one of my favourite villains, I wasn’t as connected to her story.
Ursula is my favorite Disney villain, and I was quite excited to read this book about her. And while I did enjoy her origin story, and I can't say I enjoyed the book much more. Much of the story is focused on other characters that are new. From what I understand there are other books in this series that are connected to this book and it's apparent in how the story unfolds, the obvious build up is to the next book about Maleficent. It's unfortunate that much of the book is devoted to this set up, rather than to Ursula herself. Aside from her childhood origin, the rest of Ursula's story can be seen in the animated classic, with little to nothing added.

This was entertaining and uniquely written! I read this without reading the other books in the series, and I feel like I may have understood more going into this one if I had. But it was still an enjoyable read and perfect for Disney fans that want a different perspective on the Disney villains.

I feel like this series is more about the odd sisters and their situations with the villians than about the villians themselves at this point.
Plot was repetitive [from the previous books] and all over the place. It barely included the "main" character Ursula.
