This was such a light and easy read for me. I genuinely talk to my grandma about books and films alot and when I used to stay over at hers on a Sunday we'd always watch a film together. So when I saw the blurb I couldn't help myself.
I was hooked from the start, it's a simple romance with all the cheese and some added hilarity. The older characters had so much sass and made me laugh. At times I found Elieens' character a little unbelievable but the overall story kept me going.
If you want a short, light-hearted read then this one's for you.

I was itching to read The Switch because I had seen quite a few mentions of it on Bookstagram and I wanted in on the action. I had little idea what it was about other than it was the must-read comedy of the moment.
Whilst I enjoyed the read, I wasn't overly in love with it. The plot tells the tale of how an overworked Leena swaps homes and lives with her 80-year-old grandmother. During the tale they lot a lot about themselves and each other as they indulge in things they would never give a second thought in their normal day-to-day meanderings.
There is a generous sprinkling of comedy, a little sauciness, a lot of predictability and some unexpected twists.
This book would appeal to late teens/ twenty-somethings looking for a light read, perhaps on the beach or as part of their daily commute.
Overall, I give this book a 4/5 stars. It has wit and charm. It provides the comedy that it promises . There are a few different storylines that develop amongst a varied cast. SOme characters are plain, whilst others stand out as being quite modern and different. The overall style is easy and carefree making the book easy to read in one sitting.
I am unlikely to purchase this book because it's the type of story that personally I think you read once and pass it on. I would expect to find this in one of these modern community free libraries or at the train station exchange.

I've read books about switching before. People switching bodies, like Freaky Friday. People switching jobs (I wish I could remember the title - it had something to do with switching jobs with a stripper. I liked it). But this is the first time I read a story of a granddaughter switching lives with her grandmother.
WHY THIS BOOK IS MORE THAN YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD BE: First off, I have to give a big shout out to the narrators. Each chapter in the book goes back and forth between Leena and Eileen, and my goodness, the actresses hired were great! Narrators can make or break an audiobook for me, and this one was on point. Bonus points to me for being American but knowing Alison Steadman from Gavin and Stacey and The Worst Week of My Life!
I thought this was going to be a simple, light and fluffy tale. How wrong I was. There were some heavier storylines hidden beneath the tale of switching lives. The mother-daughter relationship between Leena and her mom, as well as Eileen and her daughter. A story of loss in numerous ways. Facing the truth and finding yourself.
The stories weaved together very nicely. The supporting characters were well thought out and did not feel like props just there to add more people. They were interwoven into the story as well. All in all, I thought it was a great read!
I really enjoyed this one! This one comes out in the US on August 18th - it's coming soon! I will be looking into trying The Flatshare once my reading challenges have ended. I have a feeling Beth O'Leary is an author I will be keeping my bookish eye on.
I received the audiobook ARC by the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it. Especially seeing life through a 79 year old lady, and that she still wants romance like a teenager. It's a lovely story with authentic characters.

while all of beth o’leary’s books do have a focus on family, this one was more family drama than romance, which is totally fine, but it just made me feel stressed while i was reading. in a romance you know how its going to end, but with family stuff you dont always know how it will end and i was just pretty anxious while i was reading
