Lucy and Tanner are cuteish but what I liked the most are family dynamic and Ryan a six foot five EMT was most interesting one I'm glad his book is next.

This is book 2 in Susannah Nix’s King Family series. While this is Tanner & Lucy’s complete story, there are a few events and some family information that makes this best enjoyed after book 1, My Cone & Only. As such this review may contain spoilers to that book.

I enjoyed Tanner and Lucy’s second chance romance. They’d only split 6 months ago - but when work brings them together again, they both realize they had vastly more to learn about each other. Much of it is how much they actually have in common dealing with manipulative parents and struggles with forging their own futures.

The King family patriarch strikes again (I won’t ruin the shocking revelation) and the only good thing I can say about the man is that it definitely brings his kids closer together.

I was again tickled at all the Texas references (HEB and any business being named “Post Oak”) giving me warm fuzzies.

While it was a little painful, fortunately Nix didn’t torture them too long, Lucy & Tanner both learn to stand up for themselves and find their HEA. Lots of updates on the family, including Wyatt & Andie, as well as more page time for Ryan, Josie, and Nate. Speaking of Ryan! Nix teases his book in the epilogue and I’m beyond excited for his story, Pint of Contention.

Narration:
I’m thrilled Amanda Stribling and Chris Brinkley are at the helm again. They’re a perfect match for Nix’s writing and complement each other well. So easy to get lost in these characters.

I received a copy of the audiobook from Home Cooked Books and am leaving an honest review.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’m enjoying this King Brother’s series. I think I loved this story and these characters the most so far! Tanner is absolutely a sweetheart!

I don’t want to spoil anything…because it’s just really a great story. I’m looking forward to the next one. There’s a sneak peek in the epilogue as to how the next one is going to go!

Cream and Punishment
King Family, Book 2
By: Susannah Nix
Narrated by: Chris Brinkley, Amanda Stribling

Romantic comedy? Second chance romance? Yes please! This story has it all wrapped up in the second installment of the King Family! I love this series. Easy to listen to, low angst, hilarious family and romance all bringing me that warm feeling. Tanner is at the bottom of his patience with his father as he is demoted. Taking things into his own hands, he quits his current position to work under his sister, and across from the love of his life Lucy. Only thing is Lucy dumped him. Awkward! Now we get the chance to befriend this couple as they work their way through love and life! Tanner is just the kind of man we all love. Patient, passionate and willing to go the distance. Lucy is a hard nut to crack, dealing with her family and insecurities. Will they find their way out? Susannah Nix had me laughing and crying, frustrated and in love! This is the best kind of listen for that feel-good feeling! Looking forward to book 3!

Chris Brinkley and Amanda Stribling are fantastic together as they bring Tanner and Lucy to life. Brinkley brings out all of Tanner's qualities, and lets us feel his frustrations, patience and love. Stribling gives us the guarded heart of Lucy as she works through her obstacles with all the emotions we would feel too! I love this team and their performance.

“Being surrounded by books always makes me feel better. It’s like being wrapped in a soft blanket covered with words.”

Lucy and Tanner previously dated but when Tanner said “I love you” after only dating 6 weeks, Lucy freaked out and bolted. Now they are forced to work together at King’s Creamery in the marketing department which obviously causes some tension between the two.

Tanner is such a caring and sweet person who truly jumps in heart first, making it easy to dislike Lucy before learning her reasons for her freak out. As they decide to try being friends we learn about Lucy’s home life and more about what makes Tanner tick. They may have grown up with different privileges/lives but they actually had a lot in common when it came to their relationships with their living parent.

They were a great couple who supported each other constantly when it came to dealing with their family and careers. I was so happy that they got their happy ending.

I also love Josie and Nate’s so biking relationship and look forward to their respective books !

This is the first book I read from both Susannah Nix and the King Family series. I haven't heard a lot from her and I think this book has was a great way to be introduced to her and her books. Cream and Punishment is a light and fluffy read that discusses true to life issues like infidelities, divorce, and chronic illness. I love how Susannah tackled all of these in her book.

It started out slow and I didn't think it would take me this long to read it because I'm so used to slow burn romances. What intrigued me about this book is that it is a second chance romance, I haven't read that many second chance romance and quite honestly, I didn't like it before. But this gives me a whole new perspective about the trope and I think I'm going to start reading more books about it.

If you're a new reader, learning the English language through books, or if you're just looking to expand your vocabulary, this would be a perfect book for you. It has a lot of uncommonly used words and they would add to your vocabulary knowledge. You have to ready your dictionary because it was quite a lot. and I've never used most of those words before but it was really easy enough to understand based on the context

It was quite confusing at first because of the dysfunctional family they have but you get used to it. I love every character's back story and eventually, their character development and how they handled every issue that they have. It's safe to say that I'm going to expect more of Susannah Nix's works, it has been amazing to discover little gems like this.
