I expected so much more but I was invested. The ending kinda fell flat and now I gotta wait FOREVER for the story to continue. We need to know more about her mom!!!!!!

i liked this one better than the first,  although they're definitely still some writing issues. the politics that this book added made it more interesting.  however, I still think that there were a lot of moments that needed more development or description or something like that. they happened so fast but you could tell they were important. but there were other scenes that took up whole chapters to describe and they didn't add to the plot. overall, 3.75 stars.

All they did was fight, f*ck and fight some more. And every other chapter she woke up not knowing how she ended up naked in his bed.

Sigh. I'm already being generous giving this 3 stars. I'm only doing that because the plot, when it's actually there, has potential. And I'm also a sucker for potential and what-ifs and red flags.

As everyone else mentioned, they fuck and they fight. Constantly. Which would be fine, if anything was ever accomplished by this or it moved the plot forward, but just like ATOD, it doesn't. It's just filler. I got to the point where I started skimming/skipping over the smut, it's just overkill.

In the last 10-15% of the book, Isolde suddenly just accepts all the shit that has happened to her and then becomes this amazing, perfectly prepared and read to go heroine after being resistant and upset the rest of the book, felt rushed. And unrealistic, even for a fantasy-ish book.

I'm on the hook for the third book because I'm a sucker - but I'm actually thankful it's a while out so I have a chance to forget my gripes. There is potential for book 3 to be a good wrap up with a lot of twists, but I'm not convinced she can pull it off at this point.

This will for sure be my last St. Clair series. I read ATOD and was pissed the entire way through book 2 and 3 and I'm finding myself back there again.

Loved the first book in the series. This one was lacking any kind of plot. Hard to get through felt very repetitive: fight, makeup, repeat.

The couple was insufferable. Why are you killing the nobles when you barely have any left? And throwing fits when you are barely in power?

I have no idea what just happened in this book. So many twists it was hard to understand what actually happened. Am I going to read the next one? Most likely.
