Unfortunately this didn’t live up to my expectations following book #1. It’s hard to believe two characters that fight and argue as much as these two do are part of a love story. The excitement for their relationship from book #1 has disappeared entirely. Struggled to finish the book as the plot seems to jump around quite a bit and the main conflict seems confusing and weak. The Christmas bonus chapter was the best thing about this book.

It's now giving me Crave by Tracy Wolff vibes and I'm not mad at it. I am a little mad at one of the twists which, even though I saw it coming, was still sad.

A disappointing, clumsy sequel overall. I found myself much less interested in the story and characters in book 2. Everyone got annoying and the conflict felt forced.

The ending was abrupt in a way that didn’t feel intentional or thoughtful. Not cliffhangery, just felt like the author ran out of time to finish the book.
The bonus chapter was cringey and Christmas-specially in the extreme.

The MMC narrator was quite off-putting in general, but particularly when voicing the side characters.

i like isolde and adrian together but sometimes i wish they would just talk to each other. i mean, sex or running away won't solve your damn problems!!

I just… couldn’t anymore. Isolde is so unbelievably aggravating in this one, downright abusive at times. I continually tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, right up until
she literally slapped and stabbed Adrian for just doing his best for her and their kingdom.
and then they were immediately horny yet again.

The plot, lore, and world building was interesting, but completely shrouded by these insufferable characters and relationships. I am disappointed. There is so much potential beneath it all, and after such a great first book I had high expectations.

Lower your expectations and perhaps you’ll enjoy the sequel. However, I can’t get past it anymore. When the third book comes out if it looks like things are looking up, I’ll likely pick this one up again and grit my teeth to see it through.

For now… I’ll see myself out.
