3.25 AVERAGE

Sigh...I wanted to like this book, but it was not giving what the first book gave. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and how the author balanced the plot & spice. The book picks up right where the first book ended, with Adrian and Isolde dealing with the aftermath of the witch Ravena's attack, and what follows is a very slow and jarring tale full of too many characters' backstories, subplots, and rushed endings. The transitions between plots and spicy scenes were so abrupt that I would have to re-read sections to make sure I wasn't missing something.

And speaking of spice, I never thought I would say this, but it was so much spice that it almost didn't make sense. They argue...spice...they mourn...spice...somebody dies...spice....weird flashback...spice. It was so much spice I had to keep reminding myself of the plot to get through the book, and the plot is VERY GOOD!

Overall, I wasn't a fan of this one as the book was not balanced enough for me. I may try to read the next one but don't hold me to it.

I had given the first book 5/5, so I am sad to rate this one so poorly. But it was disappointing and confusing! the characters were difficult to empathize with, the plot didn't make sense, and I just didn't have fun reading it. The first book was so fun, hopefully this is just a middle book slump.

3.5 ⭐️ it wasn’t as good as the first BUT it was a lot of back story of what happened 200 years before. Chapter 5. Idk wtf that was. Overall it was a good book, for sure will have a lot of loose ends to tie up with the final book.

So many unknowns.

An emotional epic fantasy!

This was a phenomenal sequel to The King of Battle and Blood. Adrian and Isolde's story became so much more complicated with more secrets and betrayals. The plot was not and at all predictable and refreshingly unique. The twists and reveals took me by surprise. And I definitely got heartbroken and emotional more than once.
I loved Isolde's character growth here. Even without magic, she became a force to be reckoned with and love that she stood her ground.
I really enjoyed getting the back story for a lot of the side characters, showing that no one is just good or bad, light or dark. There's a shade of gray in everyone.
The story did end in a cliffhanger of sorts. And I can't wait till the next one comes out.
I am a fan for life after this series! Would recommend it to everyone!

DID NOT FINISH

I was so wrong. First one was definitely better. I was sad I didn’t like this series of books more.

DNF at 78%. I may finish eventually.

I’m pretty sure I would have DNFd this if I hadn’t paid for it

Good, I called 2 twists, parts of it did not fit with women’s empowerment as well as it could have.

Too angsty. The first one was better.

why am i so confused
