I hadn’t read any of Rushdie’s novels before reading this book, but I intend to now. His writing is so conversational; it feels like he’s chatting with you as you read. He address a lot of personal issues and philosophical questions with great candor. I especially found fascinating his attempts to understand the A and get inside his head. A fantastic read about a harrowing experience.

First of all - i did the audiobook on this and I highly recommend it. Rushdie mentions when he made the decision to write this in First Person he did so because a knife attack was too personal to not use "I" to discuss it. So hearing him talk about it in his voice was very powerful.

I was really surprise how much I connected to this book. I have absolutely nothing in common with Rushdie but the way he tells his own story I just found myself whole intertwined with his life and his story, especially his relationship with his wife. He writes about the attack and the events around it with such authenticity you can't help but feel a part of his life. I feel immense gratitude for him sharing this story with the world in this format.
