This was a quick read. However, as bad as I wanted to like this book, I felt like this one was so juvenile compared to others.
I also really didn’t start getting into until the 80% mark and by that point the plot was wrapping up so. I normally enjoy Elle’s book and the couple in this one wasn’t toxic atleast but the female mc was just so objectified it made me kinda uncomfortable.

I loved this one! The second in this series left me disappointed and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to return to Avalon Bay, especially not remembering Tate much. Instead, I was very happily surprised. This was such a fun read. I loved Cassie and her own drama and I liked watching both her and Tate grow and acknowledge their own growth!
The small-town beach setting was one of my favorite parts of The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy. Initially, I didn’t realize this was the third in the Avalon Bay series. The setting in this one, coupled with the glowing Avalon Bay reviews, encouraged me to add the first two to my TBR.
The Summer Girl tells the story of two newish neighbors looking for a casual romance. Inevitably, they are surprised when their relationship turns serious. This story felt more like a character study romance which isn’t typically my type of read. I wanted more of a storyline. The characters found an immediate mutual attraction to one another. I would have preferred to watch their chemistry build throughout the story to feel more connected to their relationship. That said, there were moments in the story when I felt hooked, and Kennedy’s writing style reminded me of authors like Helena Hunting and Penny Reid.
I wouldn’t say pass on this one; I’d just say it wasn’t my favorite. Read this if you’re into beachy, romance reads with a twenty-something college feel.

Ever get “friend-zoned” right out of the gates by a potential crush? Well unfortunately, returning to the family inn and seaside town of Avalon Bay, has Cassie suffering from this very unfortunate embarrassment. Tate Bartlett, adorably hot golden boy, thinks better of his initial attraction to Cassie, opting to be her friend and wing man in finding her a more suitable summer fling.
Despite this master plan, will they be able to stay away from each other? Of course not! What fun would that be…
This summer plan is further complicated by Cassie’s horrible mother, and some long lurking family secrets. Steamy romance, summer love, and twisty situations…what’s not to love?
How in the world did I not know this was a series?!
Definitely going back to read the rest!
Big thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this copy in exchange for you honest review.
